titleOfInvention | Process for treating gasoline with activated carbon to decolourise and remove impurities |
abstract | A process for decolourising gasoline and for removing from liquid hydrocarbon fuels especially gasoline, at least some of trace impurities selected from the group consisting of indanes, naphthalenes, phenanthrenes, pyrene, alkylbenzenes and mixtures thereof, the process comprising contacting the liquid hydrocarbon fuel, especially gasoline, with a decolourising, activated carbon. The product gasoline provides reduced engine deposit formation. Such gasolines may be motor or aviation gasoline and the activated carbon may be prepared from wood , coconut or coal . More particularly, the gasoline has a density not exceeding 0.775 g/cm3 and treatment with this process can cause a change in Institute of Petroleum Standard Test IP17 color rating from greater than 5 yellow/greater than 5 blue to less than 5 yellow/less than 5 blue or a change in the Saybolt color rating from less than 10 to greater than 20. Further, such a process reduces the engine deposits in a spark ignition engine in at least one location selected from engine inlet system, engine inlet valves, engine combustion chamber and engine exhaust system. |
