abstract | In order to rapidly detect biomarkers of diseases, biological material is subject to laser beam irradiation of a particular wavelength and the surface enhanced Raman scattered light spectroscopic data returned from the material provides data which is characteristic of the molecules in the irradiated material. The spectral data is compared with reference spectral data obtained from laser irradiation of the same wavelength applied to known materials carrying the marker to be detected to provide a diagnosis of the presence or absence of the biomarkers of disease of the biological material. The quantity of the biomarkers in the sample under investigation is also determined from the scattered light. |
