Silicatein is an enzyme from silicate-producing organisms for the synthesis of the silica skeleton thereof. Described is the use of well-expressed and highly-active silicatein from natural source silicatein, isolated after gene induction and silicatein fusion proteins for the synthesis of amorphous silicon dioxide (silicic acids and silicates), siloxanes and modifications of the aforementioned compounds and the technical applications thereof. |
