titleOfInvention A reduced protein reconstituted tobacco and method of making same
abstract A method for making a tobacco material with reduced levels of nitrogenous compounds comprises: a) providing a tobacco material; b) contacting the tobacco material with a first aqueous solvent to provide an aqueous tobacco extract and a tobacco fibre portion; c) separating the aqueous tobacco extract from the tobacco fibre portion; d) contacting at a temperature of 50oC to 150oC the tobacco fibre portion with a solution containing two or more compounds selected from the group consisting of sodium acetate, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide wherein the solution contains each of the compounds in a concentration of about 0.10% to 10% (w/v) of the compounds; and e) separating the solution front eh tobacco fibre portion.
