titleOfInvention Apparatus and method of testing a biological fluid
abstract An apparatus (10) is used for testing a biological fluid from an animal for the presence of disease in the animal; the apparatus includes a container (12), a dipstick (14) and a luminometer (15). The container includes a chamber containing a regent, which during testing reacts with the sample attached to the dipstick to produce light emissions. The chamber provided in the container between a closed end of the container and membrane within the container. The dipstick is movable within the container out from a first position in which the dipstick is supported in the container out of contact with the membrane and a second position in which the end of the dipstick with attached sample is in contact with the regent. The membrane is ruptured as the dipstick moves from the first position to the second position, the luminometer which has a lid is adapted to receive the container, and the lid is adapted on being closed to cause the dipstick to be moved from the first position through the membrane to the second position, whereby a determination of the level of bacteria and /or somatic cells in the sample and hence of the disease in the animal is made by sensing light emissions from the container (12).
