abstract |
Disclosed is the use of a compound that activates a receptor for glucagons-like peptide-1 or GLP-1 in medical treatment following acute stroke or hemorrhage. Preferably the compound is GLP-1, which can preferably be administered intravenously. It provides a means for optimizing insulin secretion, increasing brain anabolism, enhancing insulin effectiveness by suppressing glucagon, and maintaining euglycemia or mild hypoglycemia with no risk of severe hypoglycemia. |
