abstract | A 5-thia-w-substituted phenyl prostaglandin E derivative of the formula I, a wherein R1 is hydroxy, C1-6 alkyloxy or NR6R7 (in which R6 and R7 is, each independently, hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl), R2 is oxo, halogen or O-COR8 (in which R8 is C1-4 alkyl, phenyl or phenyl (C1-4 alkyl)), R3 is hydrogen or hydroxy R4a and R4b is, each independently, hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl R5 is a substituted phenyl The compounds of this formula can bind strongly to PGE receptors and may therefore be useful in prevention or treatment of a range of diseases including immunological diseases (such as multiple sclerosis), asthma, hypertension and acute hepatitis. |
