abstract Benzocycloheptenes having selective estrogenic activity on bones, which are suitable for the production of pharmaceutical agents, especially for prophylaxis and therapy of osteoporosis of formula (I) wherein: R1 and R2 independently are hydrogen, hydroxy, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkanoyloxy or an optionally substituted aroyloxy; and SK is a side chain -A-B-Z, where A is a direct bond or an oxygen atom, B is a straight- or branched-chain optionally substituted alkylene, alkenylene or alkinylene group with up to 10 carbon atoms, Z is a group -D-SOx-E-G, an amino group -NR7R8 or a substituent G. The compounds can also have antiestrogenic activity, which can be detected in an anti-uterus growth test, or in tumor models.
