titleOfInvention Film forming composition useful for providing one-step surgical preparation and drape
abstract A polyvinylidene fluoride-based composition comprising: 1. 30-60% by weight of total solids selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidine difluoride and copolymers thereof. 2. 10-20% by weight of total solids of a polymer of monomers selected from the group consisting of lower alkylacrylate, a lower alkyl (meth)acrylate, a hydroxy lover alkylacrylate, an alpha beta unsaturated carboxylic acid having an acid number of about 20 to 150, and the copolymers thereof. 3. 30-60% by weight of total solids of a polymer of monomers selected from the group consisting of a dialkylaminoalkyl(meth)acrylate and lower alkyl(meth)acrylate. 4. 0.5-2.0% of water based on total composition weight. 5. An effective amount of an antimicrobial agent. 6. An aqueous organic solvent for dissolving all components. The film is used to form a flexible, tack-free, non-flammable, fluid resistant barrier film with durability and skin-adhesion properties. The composition provides a long-lasting protective barrier film capable of disinfecting the skin surface of normally present micro-organisms upon initial application, and the film imparting continuous and prolonged antimicrobial properties to the skin surface through sustained release of an encapsulated antimicrobial agent. The barrier film is further capable of remaining adherent to the skin surface after exposure to biological fluids.
