A lipophilic derivative of a biologically active compound containing in its molecular structure at least one functional group selected from an alcohol, ether, phenyl, amino, amido, thiol, carboxylic acid and carboxylic acid ester group other than a nucleoside or nucleoside derivative is disclosed wherein this functional group of the biologically active compound has been replaced by a lipophilic group selected from: RCOO-, RCONH-, RCOS-, RCH2O-, RCH2NH-, COOCH2R , CONHCH2R and SCH2R with R is a lipophilic moiety selected from cis-8- heptadecenyl, trans-8-heptadecenyl, cis-10-nonadecenyl and trans-10-nonadecenyl provided that the biologically active compound is not i) dopamine; ii) a N-acylpeptide compound with one or two amino acids; iii) a steroid compound substituted by hydroxyl in position 3 on the steroid skeleton and having a saturated A-ring; iv) a compound of formula (I) wherein R1 and R2 are independently any substituent or v) a compound of formula (II) wherein R1' and R2' are as defined in the specification or vi) a compound of formula (III) wherein R1", Y, Z, W and X are as defined in the specification. The biologically active compound can be an adrenocorticosteroid, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, anti-cancer drug, anti-microbial agent, anti-parasitic drug, cardiovascular drug, pesticide, fungicide or herbicide. |
