titleOfInvention Method of increasing seafood production in the barren ocean by adding an non-precipitating iron chelate and optionally another nutrient to the ocean
abstract A method of increasing seafood production in the open ocean comprises the following steps: a. testing an area of the surface of the open ocean, in order to determine a first nutrient that is missing to a significant extent and a second nutrient that is missing to a significant extent; wherein the first missing nutrient is iron; b. applying separately a first fertilizer which comprises the first missing nutrient and a second fertilizer which comprises the second missing nutrient, to fertilize the area of the surface of the open ocean with an appropriate amount of the first missing nutrient and an appropriate amount of the second missing nutrient, wherein the first fertilizer comprises an iron chelate, and the first fertilizer releases the first missing nutrient in a form that does not precipitate to any substantial extent; and c. harvesting at least a portion of the increased production of seafood that results from the fertilization of the open ocean. Also disclosed is a method of open ocean fertilisation comprising the step of applying a fertiliser to fertilise the surface of the open ocean with a nutrient, wherein the fertiliser comprises an iron chelate and the fertiliser releases the iron in a form that does not precipitate to any substantial extent.
