The 6-phenylpyridyl-2-amine derivatives or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have the formula (I) wherein: R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, hydroxy, methyl or methoxy; G is a group of the formula (II); n is 0 or 1; Y is NR3R4, alkyl or aralkyl; X is N when Y is alkyl or aralkyl or X is CH when Y is NR3R4; q is 0 to 2; m is 0 to 2; R3 and R4 are independently alkyl or optionally substituted tetrahydronaphthalene or aralkyl or R3 and R4 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a piperazine, piperidine or pyrrolidine ring or a 6-14 membered azabicyclic ring of which 1 to 3 members are nitrogen and the rest are carbon and the aryl moiety of the aralkyl radicals is optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl. A pharmaceutical composition thereof is useful for treating or preventing conditions such as migraine, inflammatory diseases, stroke, pain, shock, ulcerative colitis, dementia, neurodegenerative diseases, emesis, epilepsy, psychosis, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, acute spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma, diabetic neuropathy or cancer. |
