A composition and its use thereof, for enhancing the bioavailability of orally administered active peptide agents. The composition comprises a) an active peptide agent, preferably vasopressin, salmon calcitonin or insulin b) a pH-lowering agent c) an absorption enhancer, preferably an acylcarnitine, phospholipid, cholesterol derivatives or bile acid, capable of promoting the peptide bioavailability d) an acid resistant protective vehicle (between 10 - 20% by weight of the entire composition) capable of transporting the composition through the stomach, while protecting it from stomach proteases. The pH-lowering agent is present in a quantity so that if it is added to 10ml of 0.1M sodium bicarbonate(aq) solution, it is sufficient to lower the pH of the bicarbonate solution to less than 5.5. |
