abstract Compounds of the formula above are glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors. Examples of such compounds include; 5-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid [(1S)-(R-hydroxy- dimethylcarbamoylmethyl)-2-phenyl-ethyl]-amide 5-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid [(1S)-((R)-hydroxy-(methoxy-methyl-carbamoyl)-methyl)-2-phenyl-ethyl]-amide 5-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid [(1S)-benzyl-3-(3-hydroxy azetidin-1-yl)-(2R)-hydroxy-3-oxopropyl]-amide 5-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid [(1S)-((R)-hydroxy-[methyl-(2-hydroxyethyl)-carbamoyl]-methyl)-2-phenyl-ethyl]-amide 5-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid [(1S)-benzyl-2-(cis-3,4-dihydroxypyrrolidin-1-yl)-2-oxo-ethyl]-amide The compounds can be used in a medicament for reducing damage to non-cardiac tissue resulting from ischemia or hypoxia. Administration of the medicament is in the range of 0.1mg/kg/day to 100mg/kg/day.
