Organophosphonic acids of formula (I): where n = 0 or 1; R 1 = H or (a); R = (b) or (c); R = an alkyl group containing> 10 carbon atoms; and K, = H or CH, which provides improved bioavailability of drugs and nutrients by permabilization of cell membranes. The products are prepared by reacting an acid chloride of a long chain C below 5 DEG C. Particularly useful are the reaction products of palmitoyl or lauroyloyl chloride with ethane-1-hydroxy-11-diphosphonic acid, 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid or 1-aminoethylphosphonic acid. |
