abstract The present invention provides a process for the production of hydrophobic inorganic oxide products which comprises reacting the inorganic oxide particles with organic halosilanes, preferably organic chlorosilane, to produce hydrophobic inorganic oxides coated with organic silane. The halosilane compounds are reacted with the inorganic oxide particles in an aqueous slurry and subjected to intense mixing. The preferred embodiments of the invention are harmless salts, which are environmentally harmless and can easily be discarded.
