abstract Compounds with a quinazolin-2-one nucleus having a substituted alkynyl or substituted alkenyl at the 4-position are described. These compounds are useful in inhibiting HIV reverse transcriptase (including its resistant variants), preventing or treating HIV infection and treating AIDS, either as compounds, pharmaceutically acceptable salts, pharmaceutical preparations, or not in combination with other antivirals, immunomodulators, antibiotics or vaccines. Methods for treating AIDS and methods for preventing or treating HIV infection are also described.
