abstract |
A method of modifying the surface characteristics of a prepressed polymer substrate to alter its properties by grafting polymerization onto the substrate, including placing the polymer substrate in a plasma to form free radicals on the substrate; contacting the free radical substrate with oxygen to form hydroperoxy groups on the surface of the substrate; and grafting polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer on the surface of the polymeric substrate. Contact lenses where the surface is modified according to the procedure are also described. |
