abstract The invention relates to a novel cercosporamide derivative which has a good hypoglycemic effect and is useful for a therapeutic and / or prophylactic drug for diabetes, a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof or an ester thereof. The cercosporamide derivative has the general formula (I): wherein X is an oxygen atom or the like; R 1 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group; R 2 is a hydrogen atom, a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group or a halogenated C 1 -C 6 alkyl group; R 3 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group; R4 is a C6-C10 aryl group which may be substituted by 1-5 groups independently selected from substituent group (a) or the like; n is 1, 2 or 3; and the substituent group (a) is a halogen atom, a C1-C6 alkyl group, a halogenated C1-C6 alkyl group, a C2-C6 alkenyl group, a C2-C6 alkynyl group, a C1-C6 alkoxy group, a halogenated C1 -C6 alkoxy group, a C2-C6 alkenyloxy group, a C2-C6 alkynyloxy group and the like.
