abstract The invention relates to extended chain copolymers or chain block copolymers containing repeating units which are represented by one of the formulae IX-XVIII. The invention further relates, in the wider sense, to novel anisotropic (liquid-crystal) extended chain polymer/polyphosphoric acid compositions, to the preparation of the extended chain polymers of high molecular weight by polycondensation of selected monomers in specific polyphosphoric acids, and in particular to the preparation of highly concentrated copolymer compositions from which polymeric articles useful for industry such as fibres and films can readily be prepared.
