titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR THE MICROBIAL MANUFACTURE OF STEROID MEDICINES BETWEEN PRODUCTS. |
abstract | Conversion of bile acids (I) contg. a 3-OH gp. into steroids of formula (II)-(IV) is effected by (a) selecting a wild strain of a Gram-negative bacterium capable of utilising (I) as its sole source of C and energy, (b) constructing a mutant by a transposon mutagenesis technique in which a transmissible plasmid is inserted into the genome of the wild strain so as to inactivate the enzymes involved in degradation of (II)-(IV), (c) cultivating the mutant in an aq. culture medium contg. (I), and (d) isolating (II)-(IV). R1-R3 = H or OH, provided that R1-R3 are not all H and that R1 and R3 are not both OH. |
