titleOfInvention FEED AND A PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THAT.
abstract A granular feedstuff for ruminants contains nutrient material and a binder as a stabilising and consistency-imparting ingredient. The binder is a polymerised material, partic. a by-product from the wood-processing industry, esp. tall oil or its resinous ingredients such as colophonium, lignosulphonate derivatives and alkali legnin derivatives. The concn. of stabiliser is suitably in the range of 1-10 wt. % e.g. 4-10 wt. % for colophonium, esp. 5 wt. %. The core of the granules pref. comprises cellulose-based natural product as the main ingredient, particularly wood chips, sawdust and/or straw, esp. straw. Other conventional ingredients, particularly oils, such as soya bean, linseed, rape and paraffin oils, may also be present, inorganic salts e.g. alkali metal or alkaline earth metal sulphate, carbonate or phosphate, are pref. also present, as are molasses.
