abstract | Conversion of a Ti (I) cpd. into a TI (III) cpd. comprises treatment in a liq. medium with an organic hydroperoxide or O2 in the presence of a Gp. VIII metal, the pH of the medium being >=0.5 when O2 is used as oxidant. Pref. the catalyst is Pt or Ru when a hydroperoxide is used e.g. t-butyl hydroperoxide, or is Pt or Pd when O2 is used e.g. at 0.14-703 kg/cm2 p.p. The (III) cpds. are useful as oxidising agents esp. for epoxidiation of certain olefins. The process gives high conversion rates of Tl (I) into Tl (III) in a rapid, efficient manner and is not limited by the reaction medium. |
