titleOfInvention | CURING OF UNSATURATED POLYESTER. |
abstract | Shaped articles are prepd. by hardening (a) 30-80 wt.% of an unsatd. polyester, dissolved in (b) 70-20 wt.% of a monomer mixt. contg. (1) 10-90 wt.% of at least 1 mono- or di-ester of (meth)acrylic acid, and (2) 90-10 wt.% of at least 1 vinyl ester of 3-20C aliphatic or aromatic mono- or poly-carboxylic acid. Opt., the compsn. contains (c) the usual additives. The polyester is the condensn. prod. of an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid, and opt. an aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid, with an aliphatic diol, opt. with a minor amt. of a cpd. contg. at least 3 OH gps. The solubility of the polyester in the monomer mixt. is improved by inclusion of a small amt. of a mono-functional alcohol with low vapour tension. The degree of unsatn. is 200-600 meq/100 g polyester, and the degree of acidity is 0-150. |
