In (I) A is H, lower alkyl, opt. substd. phenyl, benzyl or ZR1, where Z is O or S and R1 is opt. substd. lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or alkynyl, or opt. substd. phenyl or benzyl; B is halogen, >=3C alkyl, 0- and/or m-substd. phenyl, ZR1 or NR2R3, where R2 and R3 are H, opt. substd. lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, cycloalkyl or opt. substd. phenyl or benzyl, or NR2R3 is a 3- to 7-membered heterocyclic gp. opt. contg. another heteroatom, provided that R2 and R3 are not both H). Also claimed are herbicides contg. cpds. (I) and/or analogous cpds. where (A) A=B=Hf (b) A is halogen and B is NR2R3; (c) A+B is -CH=CH6-CH=CH-, where R6 is H, halogen or Me. The herbicides are esp. useful for selective control of mono- and dicotyledonous weeds in rice, wheat, maize and soya crops. Their combinations with other herbicides have a synergistic effect.
