abstract | Prepn. of 2,3-dihydroxypropyl N-(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl) anthranilate (I) is carried out by transesterifying methyl N-(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)-anthranilate (II) with 2,2-dimethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane (II) and hydrolysing the ketal gp. in the resulting ester. (I) is a known analgesic and antiinflammatory agent ("glagenin"). The process requires fewer steps than prior art processes and avoids catalytic hydrogenation (cf. US3232944 and NL296793). |
