abstract | Ethylenically unsatd. aromatic monomers are prepd. by the catalytic dehydrogenation of aromatic cpds. of formula (R1)xAr(R)n (where n is 1-3; R is a 2-6C alkyl with >=1 H atom on the C atom bonded to the aromatic C atom; Ar is a mono- or bicyclic aromatic gp. or pyridine; R1 is methyl, halogen, cyano or t-butyl; and x is 0-9) in the presence of cerium phosphate, or a mixt. of >=50 mole % cerium phosphate and zirconium phosphate. Pure prods. are obtd. with good selectivity and high conversions are achieved. |
