Aliphatic keto-esters used in perfumes |
abstract |
Alicyclic keto esters of formula (I) (where R is 4-7C alkyl), cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl; and R1 is methyl or ethyl) are prepared by reacting a methyl or ethyl ester of a 9-12C gamma-ketocarboxylic acid with methyl or ethyl bromoacetate in the presence of zinc metal, and then treating the formed lactone ester with polyphosphoric acid. Compds. I and their hydrogenated esters have pleasant flower-like odours with a high persistence. |
