abstract New-shade solvent - and migration-proof azo pigments for use in printing inks, colouring of rubber, plastics, etc N2A. Are made by (a) coupling 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid, 2,3-hydroxycarbozlic acid, pyrazolome derivs, ethylacetate diketene or 2,4- or 2,5-bisacetyl aminoaniline with diazotised opt. subst. aniline- or naphthylamine components (I) (solubiling gps. being present in the resulting dye molecule), and converting these dye into takes with polyvalent metal salts (e.g. of Ca++, Ba4+, Ni++ or Al3+) at 40-95 C; or (b) by coupling opt. substd. diazotised aniline or naphthylamine with 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid, 2,3-hydroxycarbazolic acid or pyrazolone derivs and converting the resulting dye molecules (contng. is not 1 COOH gps) into the corresp. acid-halides (II) (using acid halogenation agents (III)) and condensing them with 2,4-or 2,5-bisacetylaminoaniline. More particularly, (I) contains 0-4 optional similar substituents, which may be CH3-, CH3O-, CF3-, -CN, -SCN, -Cl etc., -NH.CO-Ph, -CO-Ph, -CONHR or -SO2- (R=H, low alkyl or Ph-; X=H, low alkyl, Ph- or -CH-CH-CN; Y=H or -NH; Z=H, CH3O- or -Cl). (III) may be PCl3, PCl5 or SOCl2 used in inert solvents (IV) contng. catalytic amts. of DMF at bpt. (IV).
