The invention relates to a cryogenic hydrogen storage system, comprising a vessel, at least one inlet and/or outlet for letting gaseous hydrogen into the system and for letting gaseous hydrogen out of the system, and a heating and cooling system for heating and cooling gaseous hydrogen, wherein the heating and cooling system comprises at least one conduit connecting the at least one inlet and/or outlet to the vessel, and a plurality of thermally insulated thermal buffers, the thermal buffers being thermally connected to the at least one conduit in series for heating and cooling a fluid in the conduit. The invention also relates to an energy storage system with such a hydrogen storage system, and a method of storing and delivering hydrogen, based on compacting the hydrogen by cooling it. |
