titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR PREPARING ION EXCHANGERS. |
abstract | 1,254,129. Foamed propylene polymer/ion exchange composites. MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 28 Oct., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 52667/69. Headings C3B, C3C and C3P. A microscopically foamed propylene polymer matrix which is molecularly oriented in three dimensions has an ion-exchange resin finely dispersed therein, the wt. ratio of polymer to ion-exchange resin being 2 : 8 to 8 : 2 and the resin having swellability of not less than 3. The foamed composite may be made by mixing the polymer and resin into a shaped body which is then subjected at above 60‹ C. to an acid treatment and an alkali treatment. The polymer may be isotactic polypropylene or a copolymer of propylene containing a minor amount by wt. of comonomers, or a mixture of polymers containing propylene polymer as the major component by wt. In the examples the ion-exchange resins used were (1) an anion-exchanger made by reacting epichlorohydrin with bisphenol-A and then mixing the product with a condensating product of ethylene oxide with pentaethylenehexamine and diaminodiphenyl methane, and heating to complete curing and to evaporate off water and other volatiles, and (2)'a cation-exchanger made by sulphonating a styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer which is then mixed with a methacrylic acid/divinylbenzene copolymer (formed partly in situ). |
