abstract Preparing (M) 2,4-dideoxyhexose/2,4,6-trideoxyhexose (I), comprising reacting an optionally substituted carbonyl compound with at least 2 carbon atoms and at least one alpha-hydrogen atom and an optionally substituted aldehyde in the presence of aldolase and water, at a carbonyl concentration of at most 6 moles/l of reaction mixture, is new. Preparing (M) 2,4-dideoxyhexose/2,4,6-trideoxyhexose (I), comprising reacting an optionally substituted carbonyl compound with at least 2 carbon atoms and at least one alpha-hydrogen atom and an optionally substituted aldehyde in the presence of aldolase and water, at a carbonyl concentration of at most 6 moles/l of reaction mixture, is new. The final concentration of (I) is at least 2 mass% of the reaction mixture. An Independent claim is also included for use of 2,4-dideoxyhexose/2,4,6-trideoxyhexose (I), obtained by (I), in the preparation of a medicine.
