titleOfInvention Process for the polymerization of 2-substituted 1-olefins.
abstract Polymerisation of 2,2'-substituted 1-alkenes is effected in the presence of a catalyst formed by reacting (i) a first metal compound containing a metal of group 3, 4 or 5 or the lanthanides with (ii) an alkylating organometallic compound used in such an amount that the metal compound (i) is not or is virtually not reduced. Also claimed is a polymerisation process in which catalysts prepared by reducing a first metal compound comprising an oxyhalide of a metal of Group 4 or 5 with a second metal compound of formula AlR'nX'3-n in which R' = alkyl, allyl or aralkyl group, X' = halogen, H, alkoxy, amino or nitrile group and n = 1, 2 or 3 are not excluded, where in a first stage the second metal compound is added to the 2,2'-substituted 1-alkene and in a second stage the first metal compound is added to the reaction mixture from the first stage. In the second stage, a second metal compound may be added together with the first metal compound. Also claimed is a process in which in the first stage the second metal compound added to the 2,2'-disubstituted 1-alkene is a compound of a Group 2 metal and in the second stage the second metal compound used contains a metal of Group 13.
