abstract The invention is purposely for Orthosiphon stamineus extracts administration in dermal skin layer. Human skin consists of epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Epidermis or also known as stratum corneum is located at the outermost layer of the skin. This stratum corneum acts as a barrier; hence most topical products cannot penetrate it. The impermeability of stratum corneum is due to the intercellular space filled with a lipid-rich matrix arranged in a laminar fashion which consequently leads to robust and waterproofing barrier Therefore, suitable carrier is important to preserve physicochemical characteristics of Orthosiphon stamineus extracts and the carrier must be small enough (nanosize) to penetrate through skin. In drug delivery, the usage of nanoparticles is where the drug is dissolved, entrapped, encapsulated or attached to a nanoparticle matrix. Nanoparticles are microscopic particles whose size is measured in nanometer in range of 10 to 1000 nm. The present invention relates to a nanostructured lipid carrier comprising Orthosiphon stamineus extracts encapsulated in lipid matrix, said lipid matrix consisting of triglyceride, glyceryl monostearate, surfactant and water.
