abstract The present invention provides a process for lowering the amount of esters of 2- and 3- MCPD in refined triglyceride oil, wherein said oil prior to entering the process has been treated with one or more refining steps and wherein said oil comprises triglycerides of fatty acids having a carbon chain length of C12 - C24 in an amount of at least 50% of the total triglyceride content, the process comprising the steps of : -tblending the oil with a base and -theat treating the oil while passing steam through the oil at reduced pressure, keeping the degree of interesterification in the product from the process below 60%.
