abstract Process for obtaining alkyl esters of the 2-alkyl-4-fluoromethylthiazolecarboxylic acid of the formula I where R1 means alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 means difluoromethyl or trifluoromethyl and R3 means alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, making reacting carboxylic thioamides of the formula II in which R1 has the meanings indicated above, with alkyl esters of the 2-chloro-4-fluoroacetic acid of the formula III in which R2 and R3 have the meanings indicated above, in an aprotic solvent, at a temperature below 100 degree C, and transforming with a dehydrating product, possibly in the presence of bases, at temperatures below 80 degree C.
