The present invention relates to methods for producing strains of Saccharomyces that are capable of developing on xylose as a single source of carbon at a desired growth rate, (such as at least one generation for 48 hours), strains made by such methods , and Saccharomyces strains that develop at a growth rate of at least one generation for 48 hours using xylose as a unique carbon source for the development performed by non-recombinant methods. |
