titleOfInvention | PROCEDURE TO PREPARE N-PHOSPHONOMETILGLYCIN AND ITS DERIVATIVES. |
abstract | N-phosphonomethylamines are produced through the reaction of an amine substrate with a halomethylphosphonic acid or its salt, a hydroxymethylphosphonic acid or its salt, or a non-mixed ester, trimmer or oligomer of dehydrated hydroxymethylphosphonic acid; Among the products that can be prepared according to the process are N-phosphonomethylaminocarboxylic acids such as (for example) glyphosate, N-phosphonomethylaminoalkanes such as (for example) hydroxyethylaminomethylphosphonic acid, and N-acylaminomethylphosphonic acids such as (for example) N acid -carbamylaminomethylphosphonic; certain reactions are conducted with a substantial excess of amino reagent in order to perform the conversion and at the same time avoid excessive formation of bis (N-phosphonomethyl) amine side products; Other reactions use a secondary amine substrate (such as iminodiacetic acid) and can be performed with substantial equimolar ratios of halomethylaminomethylphosphonic acid or hydroxyaminomethylphosphonic acid to secondary amine reagent without significant formation of bis (phosphonomethyl) amine side products; A process for the preparation of dimer, trimer and non-mixed ester oligomers of hydroxymethylphosphonic acid by azeotropic dehydration is also described. |
