Methods for preventing or treating sepsis or septicemia, a condition related to sepsis or an inflammatory disease in a mammal are described. In one embodiment, the method includes administering to the mammal a therapeutically effective amount of at least one humanized antibody, chimeric antibody, or fragment thereof, which specifically binds to the tissue factor (TF) to form a complex in which it is inhibited. the factor X or factor IX that bind to the complex, and the administration is sufficient to prevent or treat sepsis in the mammal. The invention has a broad spectrum of useful applications that includes the treatment of sepsis, sepsis-related disorders, and inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. |
