TRAINING OF STRONG POROUS HYDROGELS. |
abstract |
The present invention provides a method for the formation of super porous hydrogels using an ionic equilibrium technique. Anionic polysaccharides are included in the hydrogel reaction mixture and cations are introduced during or after hydrogel formation. The properties of the resulting hydrogel can be further adjusted by treating the gel complexed with cations with a cation or mixture of different cations under equilibrium conditions. It has been found that by properly adjusting the cations and the sequence in which they are used in the equilibrium process, it is possible to form super porous hydrogels that are highly absorbent while maintaining favorable structural properties, such as firmness, strength and strength. It has also been found that by applying the appropriate dehydration conditions to these after their formation, superporous hydrogels formed by the method of the invention can be further stabilized. |
