Compositions and methods are provided that relate to the unexpected specific association of: (i) the TGF-beta binding sclerostin protein with the BMP antagonist cordin protein to form a complex, and (ii) the binding sclerostin binding protein TGF-beta with the BMP antagonist noggina protein to form a complex, any of whose complexes is unable to bind with a member of the TGF-beta superfamily, such as BMP. The invention provides isolated complexes for use in screening assays in order to identify agents that modulate bone mineralization, and offers other related advantages. |
