titleOfInvention PROCESS TO PRODUCE SUSPENSIONS OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE FROM MICRONIZER EXHAUSTATIONS.
abstract Improved methods to produce suspensions of titanium dioxide. The output current of a micronizer is passed through a condenser to condense the vapor and form an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide, which can then, in most cases be further concentrated as desired or which can be marketed or used without additional concentration, instead of passing the output current from the micronizer to equipment to separate the TiO2 from the steam, as is common practice in the art. The resulting condenser suspension, in a further refinement, is preferably sent to a stirred storage tank together with dispersing and anti-settling compounds to aid in the prevention of sedimentation of titanium dioxide solids outside the suspension. To help facilitate condensation of the vapor / pigment mixture sent to the condenser, a portion of the condensed suspension, even in an additional refinement, is pumped from the suspension storage tank to a heat exchanger. The output current of the heat exchanger is then fed to the condenser to facilitate condensation of steam in the condenser. The temperature and volume (flow) of the condensate cooled in the condenser are adjusted to match the amount of steam and its temperature to ensure that substantially all of the steam and the contained pigment are collected from the condenser.
