FILTER MEDIA LOADED WITH ELECTRET, FOLDED AND SELF-SUPPORTED. |
abstract |
The present invention provides a nonwoven web charged with electret that can be used in a variety of applications. The nonwoven fabric is prepared from continuous fibers and once formed, a binder composition of the nonwoven fabric is applied. Generally, the binder composition is sprayed on or impregnated in the nonwoven fabric and the binder composition is cured forming a binder / nonwoven composite. After the binder composition is cured, the compound is charged with electret. The application of the binder composition to the nonwoven fabric provides the nonwoven fabric with rigidity and features so that it can be folded and such folds can be retained without the use of a support substrate. This makes the nonwoven fabric loaded with electore highly suitable and cost effective for the filter media by eliminating the need to laminate the media to a support member. |
