| abstract |
Animal foods are described which include compositions using mucosal by-products derived from mucosal material, such as digested bowel material. Foods may include a mucosal by-product containing at least about 10% by weight of nucleic acid material, at least about 20% by weight of mucopolysaccharides; and not more than 10% by weight of protein material. The mucosal byproduct is produced by a process that includes the digestion of animal mucosal material to form a mucosal digested; and separation of the mucosal digested to provide (a) a protein-enriched stream and (b) a stream enriched in polyanionic material, which includes mucopolysaccharides and nucleic acid material. |
