titleOfInvention | CAPSULES FOR DRY POWDER INHALERS AND METHOD S TO PREPARE AND USE THEM. |
abstract | The supply of dry powder formulations to the lungs by aerosol inhalation has received much attention as an attractive alternative for intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injection, because this strategy eliminates the need for syringes and needles for injection. The present invention provides cellulose-based capsules filled with dry powder that have particular utility for use with dry powder inhalers. These capsules are not only easily coordinated with conventional DPIs but also coordinated with conventional dust filling technologies, saving time, labor and costs. The invention also provides a novel method for determining, ab initio, the appropriate and optimal conditions for preparing said capsules filled with powder. Specifically, when dry powder formulations are packaged for long-term storage, it is important to ensure that the water content of the powder does not exceed the critical humidity point, the point at which the powder loses physical and chemical stability. The present invention describes means for predicting equilibrium moisture contents, which in turn can be used to establish protocols for preparing and filling appropriate capsules. |
