abstract The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an epoxy silicone coated membrane by coating an asymmetric porous membrane layer with a controlled release and UV curable silicone coating. A mixture of the epoxy silicone resin and an onium photocatalyst is applied to the asymmetric porous membrane layer in a dilute non-polar solution and cured with UV or electron beam radiation to produce a dry membrane coated with epoxy silicone. The asymmetric porous membrane layer is comprised of an asymmetric cellulosic membrane or an asymmetric polymeric membrane with low selectivity. It was found that the epoxy silicone coating gives the asymmetric membrane layer a better selectivity that extends to separation temperatures of less than 70 degree C and provides stable flow rates. The membranes produced in this way are useful for the separation of gases such as carbon dioxide from natural gas.
