MUTANTS STABLE TO THE ENZYME HEAT FOR AMIDON BIOSYNTHESIS. |
abstract |
The present invention relates to novel mutant polynucleotide molecules encoding enzymes that have increased heat stability; These polynucleotides, when expressed in plants, produce an increased yield in plant growth under conditions of heat stress; the polynucleotide molecules of the present invention encode the enzymatic activities of the ADP glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGP) of the corn endosperm and soluble starch synthase (SSS); Also contemplated by the present invention are plants and plant tissue procreated to contain, or transform with, the mutant polynucleotides, and to express the polypeptides encoded by the polynucleotides; The present invention also relates to methods for isolating polynucleotides and polypeptides contemplated within the scope of the invention; Methods are also provided to increase yield on growing plants under heat stress conditions. |
