abstract A device for interconnecting and multiplexing a plurality of interfaces is described. In the preferred mode, three serial communications ports interface so that two of them can be interconnected for communications. A novel circuit comprising a plurality of buffers is used to allow the selection of the interconnection scheme by a controller. The design is scalable and is characterized by its low cost, low requirements of printed circuit board area, and a fun function. In the preferred embodiment, a PDA, wireless transceiver, and rack interface of a personal communication device are interconnected and multiplexed efficiently.
