titleOfInvention | INTERMITTENT DECREASE OF CORTISOL LEVELS AND OTHER ADRENAL HORMONES, AS A TREATMENT OF CLINICAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH ABNORMAL CONCENTRATIONS OF SUCH HORMONES. |
abstract | The use of a compound of formula (I) or a 3-enol alkanoate ester of 1 to 4 carbon atoms thereof in the manufacture of a medicament for the intermittent treatment of a condition of a human or non-human mammal is described in which, such a mammal has an abnormally high serum concentration of an adrenal hormone: where R1, R2, R5 and R6 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R3 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or alkynyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R4 is hydroxy, alkanoyloxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a group of the formula (II) or (III). Where R7 is (CH2) n, where n is an integer from 0 to 4, R8 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxy or NH2 and R9 and R10 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R3 and R4 together are oxo, ethylenedioxy or propylenedioxy. The invention has practical benefits for the treatment of man and other animals with diseases associated with the abnormal production of adrenal steroids. The invention also shows that sustained suppression of adrenal hormone is not required to relieve symptoms under these conditions. |
