The regulation of the expression of the programmed cell part, including old age, in plants is achieved by the integration of a gene or gene fragment that codes for eIF-5A induced by old age or both in the plant genome in antisense orientation. . Plant genes encoding senescence-induced deoxyhipusine synthase and age-induced eIF-5A are identified and the nucleotide sequences of each one alone and in combination are used to modify senescence in transgenic plants. |
